Sol is here, in Cuneo, Italy, going to play a show with The Chieftains. A traditional Irish band that is really well known here, and in America too. I’m opening the show for them and singing a couple songs with them, Cule. The ride over here was beautiful, full of rivers, going through mountains, sleeping… I took the train. And tomorrow I head back on the train again, back to Bussana Vecchia, were I will play some more in the towns around there. I play on the 17th, opening for the Mothers of Invention, Frank Zappa’z old band, in a town over by Rome. My favorite thing about Italy is probably the cheap wine and the pizza. Interesting enough, Italian’s eat pizza for breakfast, amongst other things, but I think its a good custom, Mozarella and tomato…yummmzzz. I always think of my pizza lover friends while I’m here. Im looking forward to a lot of great journeys and shows this month of July. Elba, Corsica, Venice, Udine, San Remo, Nice, and La Spezia. Gotta get a move on. Keepin you posted…

I got to Italy about 1 week ago to start playing my tour here. (Boing) It is hard for me to post the dates up because I don’t know sometimes where I’m going to play. Its adventurous and spontaneous. I’ve been doing great though, working on new songs, and collaborating with different cultures. Europe is a great place to play. People here, love American music (babarabam), American/English culture is still popular. Europe is also a great place to catch trains, you can go to the station and literally walk onto any train and end up on the other side of a country, without even knowing where you are going. I did that yesterday on a day off. I caught the train and it took me along the coast. Lucky for me (Leprechaun Dance) , the beaches were spectacular and I jumped off every couple stops to check out the sights. It led me into the French Riviera, (Menton, Monoco, Monte Carlo)(George Brassans) I went to Nice later on, and played Ukulele on the boardwalk. It looks similar to Miami (Ahhhh, puppy dog) , except Miami doesn’t have mountains. But the Architecture is Art Deco, and La Promenade de las Angleis boardwalk feels alot like Ocean Drive. There are also people from all over the world, like Miami also. Now, Im staying in a town that was abandoned in 1887 because an earthquake that destroyed the village, but lucky for the hippy artists exploring around in the 60s, discovered it and claimed it for their own. Its called Bussana Vechia. Its spooky, with no electricity, you got to walk around with a flashlight at night. But I tend to stay inside. I have to write more to let you know more of the adventure stories, the concerts always are really fun…rad and matazy zzzzzzz

Hellozzz Miamians,

I have made myself back home safe, miraculously, after a long couple months out of town. I spent January in Mexico. Now, even though people say its dangerous, Ill be the first to say, it just depends on where you go, Mexicans are so friendly and warm hearted. They appreciate American culture, especially since we are neighbors, its easy for them to understand our decadent ways. They even had a Walmart in one of the towns, that disgusted me. I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with so many great traditional Mexican players. One man played a huge harp, and did the tumbao’s on it, singing old mariachi tunes. (It sounded like a blend of Cuban music with New Orleans tuba) While he played and sung he also did a clogging dance. What a trip! Their most popular beer is named Sol, so I was already a hit in town, and everyone knew what I was drinking. It wigged me out a bit when I saw the ocean down there, was so similar to Miami’s color water, in the Yucatan. But let me tell you, the sand was another story. White creamy sand for days. In between gigs I sat in my friends hammock reading Hunter Thompsons, Rum Dairies. I can relate.

February in Cuba, was beyond me. I was wondering what plane I took to get there, maybe a time warp plane. First time meeting my family, life changing experience. I had no idea where my roots were from before. That was my first step. I’m Cuban! Yup, it makes a whole lot more sense to me now. I sat in the rocking chair drinking cafe cubano while the rooster crowed talking mierda with my family, pushed a side-car motorcycle through waves over flowing El Malecon, jumped in El Malecon after midnight, drove around in my familes 57′ glassy violet Chevy, (passed down for generations (my mom rode in the car when she was a new born, damn crazy they still got it…)) and well, much more, I’ll have to write a book.

March in New Orleans, yeah, serious jazz man. New Orleans is kicking again. The streets are bustling with energy and there is talk of a renaissance of the town. Whether you been there or not, you know New Orleans is a music town. Sol in the big easy=just fine. I dabbled with the bajitar, dobro, dulimer, and got better on the ukulele. New Orleans is a town to get schooled for a musician, kind of like Colorado is for skiing, or Quebec is for circus. Music and New Orleans are like rice and beans, they just go together. That’s what took me there. Of all the places, it has the most magic. Its in the Gris-Gris man.

I’m trying to plan a going away party before I go to Europe for the summer, I’ll keep ya posted…love and positive energy

These are my upcoming shows in Miami:
