Sol, is a globe-trotting strolling minstrel. At first she defined her music as Psychedelic Cuban Blues, but after trucking the world and opening and touring with artists of ethno-musical genres, she has incorporated many other styles. Its hard to pin point, its SOL. Blues, Mariachi, Cuban Son, World Beat, Flamenco, Spanish and English, but all original. She picks ups styles as she tours through Europe, Latin America, Cuba, New Orleans, or simply back home in Miami. Its the world, connected to her and the instruments, guitar, ukulele, kazoo, piano. The Cuban essence is there, but it’s much, much more than an homage to her heritage.Â
Sol signed with EMI Publishing when she was nineteen and wrote songs for many Latin pop singers, placed a song on Showtime’s The L Word and on a Discovery Channel series on Cuba, and she has also been featured as a vocalist for signed Cuban bands. She herself, was offered a deal to be a Reggaeton/Latin Pop Star herself, but Sol fled to New Orleans instead. She felt the need to ground herself musically and understand from where the true art form of blues and jazz emerges. After many sleepless nights in New Orleans, she came to Miami with a green eyebrow, a top hat and a new sound: “Psychedelic Cuban Blues.” Her performances are as unpredictable and spontaneous as she is, as skulls spew fog and drums beat to Afro-Cuban chanting. She is a globe-trotting, sandal-flopping stage woman that tells tales of loves lost and adventure. Combining theatrical and conversational wild child wit, Sol performs self-penned lyrics and music that connects people of all walks of life. In Madrid, Contigo en la Distancia reports, “She gave me a feeling of discovery I thought I had forgotten. Sol unwraps, changes color, and gives the jam exactly what is needed.”
